New Home Collection
The summer of 2023 I moved to a new home on a country property...
Every new experience, the colours of the landscape, the new plants, animals, and changing of the seasons filled me with so much joy and inspiration. This collection is a reflection of my time here so far and I'm so happy to be able to share these experiences with you.
Title: Dancing Yellow Apples. 2023.

Dimensions: Diptych. Total size, 48 inches x 30 inches x 0.75 inches. ( Made up of two 24 inches x 30 inches x 0.75 inches Canvases )
Framing: Unframed.
"Dancing Yellow Apples" was made the same way many of my paintings are, as a way to show gratitude for the simple pleasures in life. On a grey, late fall walk, after the leaves had fallen and a layer of snow was on the ground, all colour seemed to be drained from the environment, until, I spotted these bright yellow apples still hanging onto the tree. The colour was a jolting discovery that brought me instant joy, and I knew, I had to paint them.

Title: They Moved in the Night. 2024.
Medium: Acrylic on Gallery Depth Canvas.
Dimensions: 24 inches x 30 inches x 1.5 inches.
Framing: Unframed.
"They Moved in the Night" is an abstract expression of an experience I had late at night. As I was outside with my dog Lily, I noticed a string of lights moving through the trees in the distance. At first it was a shocking, other-worldly experience until I realized it was a large transport truck visiting the farm down the road and the illusion was shattered. I’m always looking for these other worldly experiences and although that experience turned out to be something completely normal, the initial magic moment is captured in this painting.

Title: The Tired Performer. 2023.
Medium: Acrylic and Mixed Media on Gallery Depth Canvas.
Dimensions: 24 inches x 30 inches x 1.5 inches.
Framing: Unframed.
"The Tired Performer" is, in a way, a self portrait. Sometimes the creative process feels like a never ending performance. It takes you on a internal journey of discovery that never seems to resolve. Layer after layer lost and never to be seen. I got to the point with this painting where I could no longer see which direction it was going in and as I flipped the canvas over to start the next layer, I said to myself, “I’m just so tired”. I looked at the painting, now upside down, and realized there was a face staring back at me, one that represented how I felt and suddenly, “The Tired Performer” was finished.

Title: No, I Won’t Let You. 2024.
Medium: Acrylic and Mixed Media on Gallery Depth Canvas.
Dimensions: 24 inches x 30 inches x 1.5 inches.
Framing: Unframed.
"No, I Won’t Let You" is a visual description of an emotion I unpacked while making this piece. As I worked through the emotion, what it came down to was that I was getting in my own way in life.
This is the poem/journal entry I made after creating this painting:
No, I won’t let you.
No, no, no.
You cannot have the things you want.
The things you want, don’t want you.
What am I supposed to do, if the things don’t want to?
What am I supposed to be, if they just won’t let me?
If I am they and they are me,
Why can’t I just let things be.
Why can’t I just succeed.
